During time for public comments at the regular Board of County Commissioners meeting on Monday, February 8, it was announced that District #3 signups for the April 6th election to replace recently-passed District #3 Commissioner Lane Whitehouse will be held from Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This is a “winner take all” election. More will be known at the end of the business day on Wednesday, when the number of candidates who have filed has been counted.

It was unanimously approved to sign a CED (Circuit Engineering District) #1 materials grant request for West 91st Street from South 433rd West Avenue to South 449th West Avenue in District #2 for $50K. District #2 Commissioner Leon Warner explained that this project will repair one mile of road near Olive. He said, “the road is well past its prime and we need some help; we are nearing the end of the time for requests, so I thought I would turn one in and see if we can get some funding for it.”

Warner said that District #2 held its Fair Board Election runoff on Saturday. There were two candidates—Bob Pruitt and Billy Hill, with Pruitt winning the seat. Assistant District Attorney Andrew Goforth said that next week he will have the appropriate Resolution prepared for all members returning to serve on the Fair Board.

It was agreed to extend Emergency Resolution #2020-87 one more week until February 15th. Emergency Management Director Covey Murray, who typically updates the Board on current COVID numbers, was unable to do so, due to inclement weather conditions throughout the County.

District #1 Commissioner Newt Stephens stated that as of Friday, February 5, 2021, there were 450 active cases in Creek County. Warner stated that the County’s deaths have risen to 101, as of Friday. “Our cases are going down throughout most communities, except Drumright, which has seen several additional cases over the last week. It appears we are headed in the right direction; I do not see any reason to change what we have in place,” Warner said.

He asked Goforth if the Courthouse is still planning on opening on February 22, and Goforth stated that “yes, at this time, that is my understanding.” Goforth said they have held several court sessions through video conferences and that last week they had a couple of witnesses brought in one-by-one. “We are still conducting hearings at the jail through video, as well,” he reported. Stephens voted against extending the resolution, and Warner and Smith voted for it.
