Sapulpa’s Inaugural Boy Scout Golden Eagle Luncheon benefiting the Boy Scouts of America in Eastern Oklahoma will take place on Friday, February 21 at the Signs of the Times Event Center in Sapulpa. Local business SeneGence is hosting the luncheon and State Representative Mark Lawson will serve as the event’s Chairman.

Boy Scouts of America are making national headlines right now, as the agency files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in order to deal with what could be a “mammoth” compensation plan, for sex-abuse lawsuits, as reported in The Tulsa World on Tuesday.

Lawson says the filing in Delaware “does not affect local chapters,” and that the national chapter is “doing the right thing by addressing this terrible situation head-on.”

“These victims deserve justice,” Lawson says. “As a former Boy Scout, I’m am thankful my local leaders within the Indian Nations Council always put the safety of me and my fellow scouts first.”

Lawson says that despite the national chapter making headlines, the luncheon honoring Lon T. Jackson is going to continue.

Funds raised at the event will benefit the Indian Nations Council and Boy Scouts of America which supports Scouting programs for thousands of deserving youth and adult participants in our communities.

Specifically, the Indian Nations Council branch of the Scouts serves the cities of Beggs, Berryhill, Bristow, Depew, Glenpool, Henryetta, Hichita, Kellyville, Morris, Mounds, Okemah, Okmulgee, Preston, Prue, Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Schulter, West Tulsa, and Weleekta.

The generous financial gifts that can be gained at this luncheon will be critical in helping this long-standing organization achieve its goal of serving over 18,000 families in our area and keep them in a position to continue to expand the program.

According to the okscouts.org website, The Boy Scouts of America “is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with over four million youth members in its age-related divisions.”

These members range in age from 5 to 20 years old, and now include girls in addition to boys.

The organization’s goal “is to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance” that is designed to instill “typical Scouting values such as trustworthiness, good citizenship, and outdoors skills” in order “to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes.”

Rather than paying a ticket price for the program and lunch, guests are encouraged to make a monetary donation, and ideally to motivate other colleagues and peers to attend as well.

For those inspired to do more, there are also a few levels of corporate sponsorship opportunities, each of which includes a reserved table with a varied number of seats and corporate recognition.

If you would like to attend this special event to honor Mr. Jackson and to support Scouting in Eastern Oklahoma, the organization requests reservations be made by giving your pledge, name, contact information, and number of guests to the address, phone number, or website shown below.

If, however, you cannot attend the luncheon but would still like to contribute, the organization would be happy to accept a pledge in your or your company’s name and to make you an ongoing part of the Scouts’ success.
