Sheriff Bret Bowling presented Deputy Adam Heitman with the Creek County Sheriff’s Life Saving Award at the November 21 BOCC meeting.

Sheriff Bret Bowling, left, gestures while talking with the County Commissioners about the life-saving measures that Deputy Adam Heitman administered, thus gaining the “Creek County Sheriff’s Life Saving Award” from Bowling.

Bowling read a letter from Chief Deputy Chris Lee: “On November 9th, 2022, about 4:33 a.m., Creek County Dispatch received a 911 call reporting that a female had overdosed on heroin. About 4:41 a.m., Heitman arrived at the scene and quickly assessed the situation. The victim had a pulse, but she was not responsive or breathing. He immediately administered a dose of Narcan and started CPR, after about a minute there was no response. Deputy Heitman administered a second dose of Narcan and continued with life-saving measures. As Deputy Heitman continued his efforts, he administered a third dose and resumed CPR. The victim finally regained consciousness and started breathing again, and she was transported by EMS to the hospital.”

Sheriff Bowling then extolled Heitman’s virtues and praised his quick thinking: “Deputy Heitman exhibited the exceptional presence of mind and swiftness of action that saved her life. His actions and dedication to duty are a credit to the Creek County Sheriff’s Office and the law enforcement profession. Deputy Heitman is an Oklahoma native and served in the First Battalion, Seventh Marines, where he was deployed to Iraq and received an honorable discharge. He then began his law enforcement career in Kiefer Police Department where he went to CLEET and certified. Deputy Heitman has been with us since August of 2022. We are certainly and extremely fortunate to have this hero working for the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of Creek County.”
