Two Creek County sisters have earned one of the Oklahoma State 4-H Horse Program’s top honors in back-to-back years.
Kinsley Baker, a homeschool student and member of Creek County 4-H, was named the 2026 Oklahoma 4-H Horseman of the Year and received the Karen Richardson Memorial Scholarship. Her older sister, Killian Baker, earned the same title in 2025.
Kinsley was recognized during the Oklahoma 4-H State Horse Show, held in July in Chickasha. Dr. Kris Hiney, an Oklahoma State University equine extension specialist, and Dr. Steve Beck, state program leader for 4-H, presented her with a $1,000 scholarship and a commemorative Horseman of the Year belt buckle.
Killian was present to celebrate her younger sister’s achievement.
Kinsley has participated in 4-H for eight years, developing experience in horsemanship, leadership and community service. Candidates for the award must submit a detailed application, personal essay and letters of recommendation. The three finalists also participate in an interview.
The Baker sisters have been involved in several service and educational projects through 4-H. For the past two years, they have hosted a statewide horse judging competition. They also collected donations for ranchers affected by Oklahoma wildfires in 2026.
The sisters organize children’s horse camps where they teach area youth about horse safety and care, along with introductory riding skills.
With Kinsley succeeding Killian as Oklahoma 4-H Horseman of the Year, the Baker family has now brought the statewide honor home to Creek County for two consecutive years.
