A man and woman arrested in Mannford last week on larceny charges told police that they were selling the vehicles to a salvage yard so that they could use the money to pay their court fines.

Creek County Sheriff Deputies arrested 33-year-old Jacob Caudill of Mannford and 37-year-old Amy Sunday of Oilton on Tuesday, March 28th in connection with two vehicle thefts about a week apart.

The victim reported that a week earlier he got a call from his neighbor that his blue Chevy Van had been stolen out of the yard of the abandoned property that he owned.

When he received another phone call that someone was trying to steal his black Mercedes, He reportedly drove over on his 4-wheeler and caught the would-be burglars in the act, with the car loaded on a flatbed, being pulled by a Camo Silverado that was currently fighting to get out of the mud.

While he called the police about the burglary-in-progress,  Caudill and Sunday were able to get the Silverado out of the mud and were subsequently apprehended at a car wash in Mannford after being spotted by a Mannford police officer.

In an interview with deputies a day later, Caudill admitted to stealing the Chevy Van earlier in the week and taking it to a salvage yard in Drumright because he “needed the money to pay his court fines,” according to the Sheriff’s report.

According to Caudill, they had learned of the vehicles from the owner’s son-in-law, who told them the cars had sat on the otherwise abandoned property for ten to twenty years.

Unfortunately, the stolen van could not be recovered from the salvage yard, as it had already been disposed of.

Both Caudill and Sunday were charged with Auto Larceny and Trespassing.  Sunday was also charged with 2nd-degree forgery when she deputies discovered counterfeit money while searching her person.
