Here are items from recent county and city meetings that may be of interest to our readers.
Board of County Commissioners
A couple applied to have the county take up maintenance on a road that connects their community to the main road, council advised the community to create their own HOA-like government who can then work with the county to improve roads without the county having to completely take over. County felt it didn’t make sense to take over the road with the amount of work that would need to be done to bring the road to standard for the amount of people the road affects (only 3-4 households). Speed limit will be reduced to 35 MPH on that road, it is a gravel road through residences but has become a sort of speedway. Children at Play signs have not helped speeding, and one car has already flipped into someone’s yard. Unanimously passed.
Salary pay for highway employees went up to $18.55 for operator 2 and $19.47 for operator 1.
There was discussion about whether the county wanted to begin buying Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in bulk now and not have to fight for them later, should the need arise.. No action was taken in that regard.
Sapulpa City Council
210 S. Park was approved for a daycare after sitting abandoned. Already has plenty of parking through agreements with businesses on both side of location. Public response was excitement for new child care opportunity, only hiccup is sewage was improperly connected to main line so needs to be separated, but that is set to happen on Friday.
A motion to approve a contract with Advanced Copier Systems was passed but not unanimously; there was discussion on how important these copiers really were and why the company selling the copiers needed to do audits on what was being printed for surcharge purposes. It’s $350 less a month to overhaul the copy machines throughout city hall and other government buildings, with 1/2 of the machines being brought out of work for toner costs etc.
Currently food trucks have to move every 12 hours for health standards, updated language that food trucks have to move every 12 hours *unless the commissary is already on the physical location*. If the commissary (means to sanitize the food truck) is on location, food trucks don’t have to follow the 12-hour rule. There was a suggestion of changing the 12 hours to longer for events, but that would conflict with State Health laws that state 12 hours. The City said they would try to see if it’s possible to change the 12-hour rule for Sapulpa without being in direct conflict with State law or compromising public safety.
In the public comments section, there was a couple from Timber Crossing asking for repair of the road that runs by them to the Reserve that is being built. Cement trucks going to the Reserve are throwing concrete trucks from the road into lawns, and the road is in general disrepair. The couple wanted to know who to contact to request road repairs, and if they should wait until the reserve is finished because of the heavy traffic. The couple was provided with information and contacts after the meeting.
