City of Sapulpa responds to Christmas Chute taking a pause for 2025: “planning the biggest and best Christmas Chute to return in 2026”

The City of Sapulpa has issued a statement in response to the Christmas Chute Committee’s decision to “press pause” for 2025, as first reported by Sapulpa Times.

First shared on the Friday, January 3rd episode of the Timeloop podcast, the statement from Sapulpa City Manager Joan Riley made it clear that the City was on board with the decision to press pause on the Route 66 Christmas Chute for the 2025 holiday season.

“The City is grateful for the countless hours of time and effort the Chute Committee has put into this wonderful event over the past 3 years,” the statement said.

Though the news might come as a surprise on the heels of the news that Sapulpa’s Route 66 Christmas Chute had “record-breaking crowds” last year, Riley said the Chute is just one way that Sapulpa is “growing…and changing.”

“Hundreds of new homes in various stages of development, sewer and water infrastructure upgrades … downtown revitalization and the groundbreaking of the new high school. Any one of these events on their own can be a game-changer for any community, but 2025 will see all of them here in Sapulpa.”

In addition to the Dewey Streetscape redesign scheduled to begin in just a few months, Sapulpa Public Schools will be breaking ground on new construction for a new high school and performing arts center later in January. “There is much in store for 2026, including the centennial for Route 66, a renovated downtown, and the return of the Christmas Chute.”

“The city is pleased that the Chute Committee is planning the biggest and best Christmas Chute to return in 2026 and look forward to continuing our partnership.”
