Chute Season Starts Monday

It’s official, the Route 66 Christmas Chute season is hitting Sapulpa this coming Monday, October 12. Streets have already been partially and temporarily closed as of Friday morning as workers removed the bistro lights crisscrossing Dewey Avenue.

Workers remove the bistro lights on Dewey Avenue on Friday morning. Construction of the Route 66 Christmas Chute starts Monday, October 12th.

Even more changes are expected come Monday morning as downtown’s main thoroughfare will effectively be closed for the remainder of the calendar year in preparation for the return of the Route 66 Christmas Chute.

The exciting holiday event is going into its fourth year after the Chute took a year off in 2025 in anticipation of the Dewey Streetscape redesign. That construction took ten months, with delays due to heavy rains and other obstacles, but the street finally opened to vehicles again in January of 2026.

The new Route 66 Christmas Chute has been redesigned to fit in the new downtown Dewey streetscape and will utilize some of the architectural pieces as part of the structure.

Although the Chute had been redesigned, it will still feel familiar, as most of the themes will be returning, with the addition of a new one, called “Surfin’ Santa.” A map of the new Chute has been released on the Route 66 Christmas Chute website.

The Route 66 Christmas Chute officially opens a week before Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 19th, with its annual “Lights On!” celebration, which will kick off the 2026 holiday season for Sapulpa.
