The Central Tech Foundation raised more than $41,000 during its annual Ron Vandever Memorial Golf Tournament, providing money to help students overcome financial problems that could prevent them from completing their career training.
The Sept. 21 tournament at Buffalo Rock Golf & Venue in Cushing drew 33 teams and approximately 130 golfers. This year marked the 20th year for the event, which is the Foundation’s only annual fundraiser.
Money raised through the tournament is used to assist Central Tech students with tuition, required program supplies, transportation, professional clothing, medical needs and other unexpected expenses.
Over the past year, the Foundation distributed more than $58,000 in assistance to 191 students from 34 communities within Central Tech’s district.
Central Tech Superintendent Kent Burris said the support allows students to remain focused on their education while preparing for careers.
“The generosity of our golfers, sponsors, volunteers and community partners is an investment in our students and their futures,” Burris said. “Their support helps remove barriers and creates opportunities for students to stay focused on their education, build valuable skills and pursue the goals they have for themselves and their families.”
Foundation assistance is intended to help students remain enrolled when an unexpected expense threatens their ability to finish a program. Central Tech operates campuses in Sapulpa and Drumright and provides career and technical education to high school students and adults throughout its district.
