Sapulpa Main Street names Konnor McGuire director as Cindy Lawrence retires

Sapulpa Main Street has named Konnor McGuire its new director.

McGuire, 22, succeeds longtime Main Street Director Cindy Lawrence, who retires Nov. 11, according to a news release from the nonprofit. McGuire has already started in the role, and Lawrence is helping with the transition until her retirement.

Sapulpa Main Street is an arm of the Main Street America national and state economic development programs.

Lawrence took the post in 2014 with a thorough knowledge of Sapulpa Main Street’s mission and downtown operations, having served the nonprofit as a volunteer, a board member or both since its 1990 launch, the release said. A Sapulpa native, she also draws strength from strong community ties. Her family has operated several different downtown businesses since 1907.

McGuire, also a Sapulpa native, first volunteered with Sapulpa Main Street for the 2011 Route 66 Blowout car show. He has kept ties with the nonprofit ever since.

“My longstanding connection to Sapulpa Main Street has given me a deep appreciation for its mission and the important role it plays in preserving, promoting, and strengthening our community,” he said. “I believe my strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to Sapulpa will help me make a meaningful contribution to the program.”

McGuire graduated from Tulsa’s Wright Christian Academy in 2022 and attended Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville the following year before transferring to the University of Tulsa, where he studied political science, cybersecurity and government. He earned his bachelor’s degree this year.

Sapulpa Main Street President David Reed, founder and principal of Sapulpa’s Reed Architecture & Interiors, praised Lawrence’s tenure.

“We’ve been fortunate to have Cindy’s leadership and dedication to Sapulpa Main Street for so many years,” Reed said. “She leaves an incredible legacy and big shoes to fill.”

“As we thank Cindy for her years of service, I’m excited to welcome Konnor as our new director and work alongside him to build on that success,” Reed said. “Together, we will work to keep the momentum going, support our downtown businesses, and make downtown Sapulpa an even greater place to live, work, shop, and visit.”

Sapulpa Main Street’s mission is to restore, maintain and grow the heart of the city, which the release calls Sapulpa’s distinguishing characteristic. Since its inception, the organization has helped bring $50 million from private and public sources into downtown brick-and-mortar projects, according to the release.
