What to Do This Weekend (February 21 – February 24)

Chieftain basketball, soccer, art classes, and community theater are what’s on tap this weekend!

Thursday, February 21

Sapulpa Artists’ Guild Paint Classes from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m. at the Sapulpa Senior Citizen Center, 515 East Dewey Avenue. The class is free and help is available from art teacher Sam Houghton. The group works in oil, acrylic, and watercolor as well as pastels. There is an optional $20 per year membership donation. You may also visit the class before joining. Beginner Dry Brush Class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Painting Gypsy Studio, 619 North Mission in Sapulpa. This is a dry brush technique class. The cost is $20 per person which includes a ceramic ice cream box piece, paint, and studio fee. No painting experience needed! 8 Ball Pool Tournament League on Thursday nights at 7 p.m. for 13 weeks (beginning on January 10) at VFW Post 1320, 1201 West Dewey Avenue. It’s $5 per session and is open to the public! For more information call 918-512-8286 or 918-227-1320.  

Friday, February 22

Personal tax assistance by the AARP at the Sapulpa Public Library on the lower level on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This program begins Friday, February 1 and ends, Friday, April 12. This is a FREE tax service, for all ages and incomes. (The Library lends the space for tax services and does not make appointments, take calls, or know details of tax prep, etc for this program. Sapulpa Chieftains Varsity Baseball game versus Tulsa Memorial at 5 p.m. at the Chieftains Baseball Field.

Rumor has it the little old ladies who own the Mavis Garner Bed & Breakfast get their customers from cars damaged by a pothole on Main Street.  When dirt-sheet reporter Arthur Lyman seeks to expose them, he finds more than he bargained for in this hilarious screwball comedy. Sapulpa Chieftain Varsity Boys Basketball game versus Ponca City at 8 p.m. at the Chieftain Center. Root for your Chieftains to beat those Wildcats! The winner will play the winner of the Owasso v. Bartlesville game on Saturday, February 23 at 7 p.m. in Sapulpa.

Sapulpa Chieftain Varsity Boys Soccer scrimmage with Booker T. Washington, Jenks, Mustang, and Bartlesville at 8 a.m. at the Westside Soccer Complex.

Saturday Bowling Youth Leagues at 10:30 a.m. for 12 weeks beginning January 19 at Sahoma Lanes, 1499 North 9th Street, Sapulpa. Only $8 per week. Three member open teams, 1st-6th and 7th-12th grade teams. Earn points toward scholarship money by games bowled in leagues and tournaments! Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance at 10:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 1420 East Dewey Avenue in Sapulpa. This is a FREE 12-week program conducted by Gina Wozencraft and put on by the Creek County Health Department. Through simple, graceful movements that are easy to learn, Tai Chi builds physical stamina, improves one’s balance, muscular strength, postural control, self-confidence, memory, and reduces the likelihood of falling. Our Town Auditions at 2 p.m. at the Sapulpa Community Theatre, 124 South Water Street. Auditions will also be held on Monday, February 24 at 6:30 p.m. The cast calls for approximately 24 men, women, and children of all ages over 8. Leads: Stage manager – Typically played by middle age to older man but they will consider any age and any gender. Emily Webb – age 16-25. George Gibbs – age 16-25. Creek County Democrats February Meeting on Thursday, February 21 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Joseph’s Fine Foods, 54580 West Highway 16 in Drumright. They will be sharing more information about the upcoming March 14 Precinct Meetings, as well as filling spots on some of their local committees. They should also have more information about the upcoming County, District, and State Conventions. This is great time to get involved! Dinner ($8 per person which includes tip) will be served at 6:00; the meeting proper will begin about 6:30. There is no charge to attend the meeting. Fifty-Five and Alive Workout at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Faith Fitness Center at Faith Church, 1901 West 171st Street South in Glenpool. The Faith Fitness Center at Faith Church has opened and it’s free to everyone! If you’re 55+ join them for this new class.
