At roughly 4:35 pm on Monday afternoon, Sapulpa Police Major Diehl was driving eastbound on Dewey Avenue, when a woman in a red Chevrolet Trax went left of center in the westbound lane, nearly resulting in a head-on collision.
Diehl turned around and attempted to pull the woman over, but she began driving erratically and seemed unresponsive to the lights and sirens of the police car. As she passed the Creek County courthouse on East Dewey, she collided with a parked blue Chevrolet truck.
Police pulled a vehicle in front of her SUV to keep her from continuing down the street. Officers told Sapulpa Times that once they were able to make contact with the driver, they began asking her about what had just happened. They say she was responsive, but not completely coherent. They called an ambulance to the scene to have the driver checked out. One of the officers remarked that the woman was wearing a hospital bracelet, and suspected she may have recently had some sort of medical procedure that contributed to the erratic driving and crash.
The scene held up traffic in the westbound lane of Dewey Ave for about a half hour, and no injuries were reported.
