Woman involved in accident allegedly assaults police en route to the hospital, jail

Police say 34-year-old Jessica Mounce was involved in an injury accident at the intersection of State Highway 66 and W 81st Street on Sunday, June 18th. When police responded, Officer Radcliffe reported that they could smell the alcoholic beverage emanating from the 2014 Dodge Journey registered to Mounce

As Radcliffe approached the vehicle, he said he noticed two “mostly empty” bottles of E&J brandy, as well as a nearly-empty bottle of fireball, according to the arrest affidavit.

Radcliffe reports in the arrest affidavit that Mounce “became very agitated and refused to follow our commands,” adding that when officers tried to place her in handcuffs, she tried to get back into her crashed vehicle and leave.

Radcliffe says Mounce struggled to speak coherently during the entire incident, became increasingly belligerent and combative, and refused medical treatment on the scene. When the officer attempted to transport her to the hospital, Mounce began kicking the in-car computer and keyboard. When Radcliffe pulled over to restrain Mounce, she kicked him as well, according to the arrest report.

Eventually, Mounce had to be physically placed into a patrol car with a cage in the back in order to be transported to the hospital. When she arrived there, she still refused medical treatment from the hospital staff, according to the affidavit.

Mounce was later transported to the jail for processing and continued her assault, allegedly kicking Lt. Snelson and clawing at Officer Vernon so that his hand began to bleed. According to the affidavit, Mounce had to physically be placed in the cell by several officers.

Mounce was charged with resisting arrest and three counts of assault and battery on a police officer. A criminal history check show a previous charge for assault and battery, and another charge for first-degree burglary, according to the affidavit.
