Truth at the Tailgate

Rolling, rolling, rolling . . . on the heavenly highway.

These old pictures displayed on a small banner stretched across the tailgate of our pickup serve as a model for our witnessing/soul-winning efforts at campsites, parks, fishing locations, roadsides, and along the pilgrim way as we “journey!”

They also depict how the old-time preachers evangelized during the days preceding the Great Revivals and Great Awakening in Britain and America. They didn’t have popular television preachers, light shows, smoke and Hillsong rockstars back then, nothing they brought but the pure Holy Word of God and the message of the gospel. No one they preached except Christ the Crucified and Risen Savior . . . one message — “Only Jesus Saves!”

With days and nights of evangelistic preaching, and exposition of the Gospel, hundreds and thousands were saved. As one writing the captions for these old photos observed: “We don’t need celebrity pastors and concerts to bring people to Christ today . . . just preach the Gospel and God will work.

We are using the banner at the tailgate as part of our tract ministry “Truth at the Tailgate’’ in a similar way to get the simple Gospel out there in tracts, booklets, and a strum or two on the old guitar. We also will have a supply of Don’s books he can autograph. Pray for us, and if you see us out there sometime. honk and flash your lights. Stop and talk and pick up some free tracts and a Bible.

“And the lord said unto the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.’” — Luke 14:23 [And that ‘house’ is not some earthly building — it’s Heaven — the Father’s House — the subject of one of our recent tracts.]

In addition, we are having the following lettered on the back of our camper: “How do I get to Heaven from here . . .” A man asked. Jesus saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” — John 14:6
