Suspicious beeping at Sapulpa gas station ruled “false alarm”

Sapulpa police have determined a suspicious beeping device at a gas station was a “false alarm.”

Police were called to the scene of the Murphy USA gas station outside of Walmart (1002 W Taft Ave) in Sapulpa on Monday evening after someone reportedly heard a beeping noise coming from inside one of the gas station’s outdoor trash cans.

Within minutes, police evacuated the area and cordoned it off with caution tape, treating it as a possible crime scene and drawing the curiosity of the shoppers nearby.

Sapulpa police called the Tulsa Police Department bomb squad, who arrived on the scene to investigate the beeping device.

Officials at the Sapulpa Police Department told Sapulpa Times that the TPD bomb squad examined the device, determined it was not an explosive device and “destroyed it on scene.”

No other details were given as to what the device was.

The owner and publisher of the Sapulpa Times, Micah started the online news outlet in 2015 as a modern alternative to the local newspaper to help keep Sapulpa informed about their community and its organizations and events.
