Super Bowl 50’s ‘Dancing Dad’ has Sapulpa roots

A Sapulpa native stars in one of popsugar.com’s most memorable memes from Super Bowl 50.

Dancing in the background during the halftime show’s Bruno Mars set was Mark Sumner, who was choir director at Sapulpa High School for eight years.

Sumner, an Oklahoma State University graduate who is the director of University of California Choral Ensembles, was at the event as a chaperon for UC Berkeley members who performed during the show. His performance, captured on Vine, has more than 4.5 million views.
“I was probably the oldest person on the field,” he told the website about the major moment. “I didn’t even know who Bruno Mars was. He could have been anybody for all I knew.”
