Sunday Timeloop: International Sweatpants Day, new tourist attractions and the stories you missed this week

Good morning! Welcome to the Sunday Timeloop, the subscribers-only newsletter brought to you by Sapulpa Times that catches you up on what you might’ve missed last week, and helps you prepare for the week ahead.

It’s International Sweatpants Day today. And on a day when the high is 37 degrees, I’m tempted to participate. If I didn’t have to head to church this morning, I might do just that. Does it still count if I wait till I get home to slip back into my favorite pair of sweatpants?

The news you need to know now:

  • ❄️ Speaking of the chilly weather, we expect some rain this evening, which could turn to ice overnight and impact the Monday morning commute. No word yet on whether or not it will cause a cancelation of schools tomorrow, but Sapulpa is under a winter weather advisory from 6pm tonight through noon tomorrow.
  • ? If you’re interested in getting your creative juices flowing, Dancing Skeleton Meadery (609 S Main Street Ste B) is doing a Paint n’ Sip event tonight, starting at 6pm. Indulge in a cozy, creative evening, sipping and painting, and making new friends! Secure your spot and get ready for a delightful experience! The painting kit is only $25.00 – Dancing Skeleton Meadery welcomes painters of all ages!
  • There’s been a lot of engagement on a story we shared this week about Sapulpa’s trail system joining up with INCOG and becoming part of a larger regional system of walking and biking trails. Interestingly, a number of commenters expressed concern over how the trails might displace some of Sapulpa’s homeless population who are known to live in the woods that have been removed for the construction of some of these trails. You can see the post and feedback on our Facebook Page.

Photo of the week:

A new tourist attraction has been partially installed in what’s being called by some people as Herald Square, it being the former site of the Sapulpa Herald newspaper building (17 S Park). Part of the Phase 2 Alleyway Project (which is a project of the 2020 GO Bond), a Route 66 shield outline will be added later to complete the installation, and city officials are hopeful that Herald Square will become a draw for tourists and families, as well as a venue for music and gatherings.

Stories you might’ve missed this week:

Bible verse of the day

James 5:7-8 talks about patience. I’ll admit, it’s not one of my best qualities, although I’ve learned to be a lot more patient in the last few months. Patience seems to be one of those things we need a constant reminder of, given how predisposed some of us are to worrying, being anxious, or trying to help make things happen ourselves. I try to find that balance between being proactive, but knowing when to move and when to wait is not an easy thing. What about you? Feel free to hit reply and let me know.
