Thursday, September 26, 1957, Democrat News: Max Chambers Library Dedicated at Edmond

“Sapulpa friends of Max Chambers, former Sapulpa High School principal and superintendent, will be glad to learn that a new library building was formally dedicated in his honor Sunday afternoon at Central State Teachers College, Edmond, Okla. Following dedication ceremonies a reception and open house was held in connection with the event. Claude Masters, a close friend of Mr. Chambers and Mrs. Ovid Stivers attended from Sapulpa.”

Sunday, September 26, 1982, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Glenpool Plans Heritage Day for Cemetery

“At the bi-montly meeting of the city council, a Glenpool Heritage Day was planned for OCt. 16. The focus of this event will be a clean-up of the historic Twin Mounds Cemetery located between 161st St and 171st St. ‘The cemetery is overgrown with weeds and brush, and it will take a hard day’s work to really make it presentable,’ City Manager Roger Miner said…The senior citizens organization will provide free chili and beverages for everyone who attends…”

Monday, September 26, 1994, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Oil Patch Mural Dedicated

“The mural honoring Drumright’s oil patch isn’t quite finished, but was dedicated during Drumright’s Oil Patch Jamboree Saturday. Artist William Volok admits he could not get the mural finished as quickly as he hoped, but passerbys didn’t seem to mind. The mural covers 1,300 square feet on the west wall of the Bennet Building, Volok said. He said that building once housed a Buick dealership, where Depression-era mobster Pretty Boy Floyd used to have his car repaired…When Drumright paved its streets, Volok said, some leftover bricks were used for the side of the building. He said the walls were three bricks thick, and in some places the bricks were set crosswise…Volok estimates he spent 60 to 75 hours preparing a smooth, concrete surface for the mural. He began working the first of April and estimated he has spent 500 hours on the project. The mural depicts Wheeler No. 1, an oil well that came in in 1912. It was the largest producing well during 1912 to 1916…”

Thursday, September 26, 2013, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Sapulpa Middle School Receives Grant

“OGE recently announced Kerry Gray, principal at Sapulpa Middle School, is one of the 35 OGE Teacher Grant winners across the company’s service territory in Oklahoma and Arkansas. The middle school engineering project for students focuses on robotics. Students can work with partners and small groups to build up to 12 different robots with materials funded by the grant. Students also will learn how to convert energy between solar and battery power. Cooperative learning and science/engineering vocabulary will be emphasized…”
