Friday, September 25, 1931, Sapulpa Herald: P.T.A. Council Launches 1931-32 School Program

“The P.T.A. Council swung into its year’s work yesterday afternoon when officials met at the Jefferson SChool to outline general plans for 1931-32 and to place these on the table for general discussion. Mrs. M.R. Shumard, new president of this organization, presided. A program for the years’ work was launched. Elaborate reports were heard from active members and the one given by Mrs. D.R. Beeler stood out as one of the features of the meeting. Mrs. Beeler outlined in detail the book plan that has been agreed on for the supply of school texts to the poor students of Sapulpa. She gave a lengthy resume of the work that is being done at the present time by the welfare committee and read a list of receipts and expenditures in this work….Supt. of Public schools, E.H. McCune gave an inspirational talk…He marked the goals which this group should work toward and stressed the need of definite objectives. He pointed out the bright prospects for this organization during the present year…”

Thursday, September 25, 1941, Democrat News: Friday is Free Day for School Kiddies at the State Fair

“Free school children’s day at the Oklahoma State Fair Friday, the largest attended day of the week, promises to be even greater this year with the announcement that Senator Elmer Thomas would speak to more than 15,000 members of the 23 rural electrification co-operatives in Oklahoma, Ralph Hemphill, fair manager, said. The day also is press day with nearly all state newspapermen expected to arrive early for the entire day. Senator Thomas’ appearance came as a late surprise and a big boost to attendance hopes at the fair when rural electrification officials met here a few nights ago to complete plans for purchase of 20,000 tickets for the organization’s total membership…”

Monday, September 25, 1961, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Weekend Mishaps Keep Police Busy; Damage is Minor

“Sapulpa experienced a rash of traffic mishaps over the weekend, but no injuries were reported and property damage was light. The first mishap occurred at 10:40 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of Bryan and Walnut Streets and involved moderate damage to both vehicles…A second accident occurred about 6 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of S Division and E McKinley Streets…About 8:30 a.m. Sunday, a third accident occurred at Main and Line Streets, resulting in minor damage…The fourth accident which occurred about 4:15 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block on E Dewey resulted in a citation for Sapulpa man…”

Friday, September 25, 1970, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Herald is Number 1

“The Sapulpa Herald today won the Sweepstakes trophy in the Oklahoma State Fair’s Better Newspaper Contest. The Herald, published by Ed K. Livermore, won the division for daily newspapers produced by offset printing, the largest category. It was a banner day for Creek County, with the Bristow News and Record-Citizen winning the Sweepstakes trophy for twin weeklies produced on flatbed letterpress. The Herald won first in two of six individual categories – advertising enterprise and general excellence – was third in news content. The composite points gave the Sapulpa newspaper Sweepstakes trophy…”
