Thursday, October 30, 1958, Democrat News: Christmas Seals Now Available for Overseas Mailing

“Christmas Seals are available now from County Tuberculosis Associations for use on Christmas packages and letters going overseas, it has been announced by the state TB office in Oklahoma City. Due to the increasing number of requests for Seals for early mailing and for package decoration, county associations have been alerted to fill orders for any who desire them. Postal authorities have announced that overseas packages should be mailed between Nov 1 and Nov 20 in order to be assured of delivery by Christmas.”

Dressing up as a favorite character and walking around the neighborhood with friends is a once a year treat kids remember for a lifetime. But every year, children are hurt due to auto accidents, fire injuries, falls, and poisoned ‘treats’ ; however, parents and children alike can take steps to ensure a safe and happy holiday. The Oklahoma Safety Council has published a pamphlet entitled ‘What Every Parent Should Know About Halloween Safety.’…”

“Sapulpan residents Kay Hendricks and Diane Kennedy have decorated their homes with elaborate and unconventional Christmas decor for the Swim for Sapulpa Christmas Tour. The public is welcome to tour the houses, where they will see things like the Santa Chandelier, the Native American-themed Christmas Room, the Hispanic-themed Christmas tree, and more. Tickets for the tour are $10 a piece and go on sale Saturday Nov 1. They can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce, Sapulpa Parks Rec. Community Center, Le Jardin, Isabella’s Collection, A Moment in Time, Antique Mall, and Doodles. All proceeds from ticket sales will go towards construction of the new swimming pool at Liberty Park. The homes will be open for touring on Friday, Dec. 5, Saturday Dec. 6. Addresses of the homes that will be open for touring will be included on the back of tickets.”

Wednesday, October 30, 2013, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Literacy Program Receives $4,000 Grant for Outreaches

“The Creek County Literacy Program received a $4,000 grant to help keep outreach programs running for a second year and help the community…The grant is from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries (ODL). The ODL delivered grants to seven adult literacy programs to help impact the education of adults to better Oklahoma…The Creek Program is always busy providing workshops and classes. Recently the literacy program held a fire safety workshop which had 33 participants. In addition they had a poison and first aid class and had 27 in attendance…”
