“Liberty Elementary School principal Ed Swift took it on the chin Wednesday – and in the eyes, and on the nose, and all over his face – because his students like to read. Or maybe they just like to see their principal get hit in the face with a pie. Swift agreed to get a pie in the face if his students read 50,000 pages or more in one month. Liberty School Librarian, Roxanne Feldman, who prepared the facial with a graham cracker crust, said the students actually read 70,000 pages. Students colored a jigsaw-puzzle poster to keep track of their progress, and actually finished the 50,000 pages two days before the deadline…Fourth-grader Katie Sutton delivered the blow. Sutton won that honor by reading the most pages, 3,836. Students changed ‘Ka-tie, Ka-tie!’ and counted down to the moment Sutton would throw the pie…”

“Miss Oklahoma Kelsey Cartwright, passed through Sapulpa today, stopping at Washington School. She talked about the America Cars for Children Program, which encourages students to make wise decisions that will lead to a life to be proud of. She talked about three steps that will make life as rewarding as it can be: 1, get out of your comfort zone; 2, stay away from ‘watermolonade’; and 3, set goals for yourself…Cartwright talked about how life sometimes brings problems your way ‘dealing you some lemons.’ however, there are times when the problems seem much more the size of a watermelon, and you have to learn to just take that problem and do the best you can with it to survive…”

“Mounds town council convened and adjourned the monthly public works meeting in just one minute’s time. A bit more business was done during the trustee meeting. First up was report made by the town’s inspector. ‘Moderate amount of building activity in town. We have a garage addition goin on 12th street, and the large underground fuel tanks have been removed from the SunMart.’ The SunMart convenience store was shuttered and will be completely demolished to accommodate the needs of ODOT plans for the remaking of the 75-Alternate bridge over the railroad tracks and the improvements and expansion of the state highway between Mounds and Kiefer…”
