Wednesday, October 1, 1924, Sapulpa Herald: Sapulpa Day at Muskogee Event

“Tomorrow is Sapulpa Day at the Oklahoma Free State Fair which is now in session at Muskogee, according to statements from members of the Rotary Club. As was announced a few days ago, the Rotary Club was extended an invitation from the Muskogee Rotary Club to attend the fair Thursday as guests of the latter club…It was announced this morning that Thursday would possibly be known as Sapulpa Day because a large number of Sapulpans that are not members of the Rotary Club are going to attend the fair tomorrow. Most of those who are going over will drive through from Sapulpa. Due to the fact that several different routes have been picked out, those going will depart from Sapulpa at any time they may desire or on any road they may desire and will meet at the Hotel Severs in Muskogee…”

Sunday, October 1, 1961 Sapulpa Daily Herald: NAACP Aide is Due at Board Meet Monday

“An 11 item agenda for Monday’s City Commission meeting was released Saturday by City Manager Max Minor, with several lengthy discussion items listed…One of the items is a scheduled appearance by a representative from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People to discuss the use of the fishing dock facilities at Sahoma Lake. The NAACP reportedly has sent the city a letter protesting the alleged refusal of admission of Negroes at the dock. A water contract for Don Herrinton’s Lazy H addition south of Sapulpa again will be discussed, while Minor will make his regular report to the board on routine city activities. A report will be given by the water committee on their study of what type of water meters to purchase…A discussion is scheduled on the anticipated installation of pop, coffee, and sandwich vending machines in Sapulpa…A request for the operation of a child care center at 416 N Brown will be considered. A modification of the contract on the Sahoma Lake flow line project also will be presented.”

Thursday, October 1, 1987, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Way of Calling Jury Will Change in State

“If you drive a car, you may be called for jury selection in 1988. A recent state legislative change has called for jurors to be selected by driver’s licenses, instead of voter registrations…Individuals wanting to volunteer for possible jury selection in Creek County District Court in 1988 have until Oct 30 to sign up. Jury panels for 1988 will be selected from licensed drivers in Creek County and those who volunteer. Only those who do not have a driver’s license and wish to be included for possible jury selection needs to fill out a special form available in the clerk’s office. Hobbs stressed that a person will be volunteering for possible jury selection. The volunteers will not necessarily be summoned for jury duty…”

Sunday, October 1, 2017, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Sapulpa Elks KCBS Meaty Q Contest

“The 4th Smokin’ in Sapulpa event sponsored by the Elks BPO Lodge No 1118, kicked off Friday night with Kansas City Bar-B-Q Society’s (KCBS) cook-off. Dozens of entries were lined up on the lawn beside the soccer fields off Wickham Road, at 1745 Buckboard Lane, already preparing their gastronomical delights. The price of entry is $7 ahead of time or $10 at the gate. Taster Kits are available until the food runs out. Last year the Elks sold 936 Taster Kits…The prize includes a $5,500 pot to be divided among the Grand Champion, the Reserve Champion, and five places in each of the divisions: Pork Butt, Chicken, Ribs, and Beef Brisket. The 6th-10th place winner get a ribbon…”
