Tuesday, October 14, 1969, Democrat News: School Board Okays Bid for Woodlawn Classroom

“A bid of $9,570 was approved for a portable prefabricated classroom Monday night at the regular monthly meeting of the Sapulpa School Board. The classroom is to be used at Woodlawn Elementary School. The successful bid was submitted by Southwestern Contractors, tulsa, one of two bidders. The other bidder was Conham Inspection, Tulsa, with a base bid of $10,336. Effective bids were determined by a number of alternatives which called for the deletion of three windows, downspout and guttering, and final tile flooring from the original specifications. An air-conditioning unit was added to the final bid…The classroom will be placed at the Woodlawn School facility in order to alleviate crowded conditions in the first grade class. Presently, one class of first graders is being conducted on the stage of the school. Work on the new classroom will begin after the final contracts are signed…”

Sunday, October 14, 1984, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Local Doctor Killed in Plane Crash

“Sapulpa Dr. O.H. Patterson was killed Saturday morning when an airplane he was a passenger in crashed into the Gulf of Mexico. Rex Whitetree of Smith Funeral Home said he received word of the tragedy from the doctor’s wife, Joan Patterson, who was not a passenger on the plane. Mrs. Patterson contacted Whitetree from South Padre Island, Texas. The Ken Holloways also received a call from Mrs. Patterson. Patterson and another man were apparently in a ‘chase’ plane taking photographs of a PBY plane, a World War II Navy Sea Plane. Patterson piloted a PBY for the U.S. Navy during World War II. The plane crashed into the Gulf near Brownsville, TX and both men were killed…”

Friday, October 14, 1988, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Chamber Makes Trip for Industry

“A Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce team will travel to Memphis, TN, next week to call on several industries, including one considering an expansion here. Mo Harrison, Chamber Administrative Assistant, said the company employs several hundred in Memphis and reacted favorably to Sapulpa’s presentation during the chamber’s first visit in August 1987. Harrison said the seven-member volunteer team will call on some of the same industries that were visited on the first trip along with some new prospects. So far, five companies have confirmed appointments with the team. Harrison said the group should have about 25 companies confirmed for appointments before trip…”

Tuesday, October 14, 2014, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Extinguishing Real Fears & Fires at SFD Open House

“Sapulpa’s Central Fire Station welcomed all Saturday to the annual open firehouse to cap off National Fire Prevention Week. Firefighters encouraged children to safely experience handling a fire extinguisher on propane flames and to use a junior sized fire hose to knock down cardboard flames in a playhouse. Seven-year-old Alexis Schmeckpepper grinned ear-to-ear as she handled the water hose under the tutelage of Sapulpa Fireman Ryan Stephens. Fire safety lessons for children was stressed ‘to learn not to burn.’”
