Thursday, November 22, 1934, Sapulpa Herald: Oklahoma Gets First Taste of Winter

“Sapulpans wore their overcoats in earnest today for their first time this season as bleak skies sifted down an almost imperceptible snow flurry around 8 o’clock. The mist vanished but the chilly wind continued. Downpours of rain yesterday, accompanied by brisk gales last night, ushered in the radical change in local weather. One of the longest summers ever known in this section was brought to an abrupt end in a revolt of the elements. The mercury had slumped to 38 this morning before 8am. It hovered around 59 yesterday at a similar time…”

Monday, November 22, 1954, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Gilliam and Harris to Have Formal Opening Tomorrow

“Formal grand opening of the beautiful, newly redecorated and enlarged Gilliam and Harris Furniture store will be held tomorrow. The store occupies the space formerly used by Wilson Bros. Furniture, an apartment entrance, and the building formerly occupied by a grocery store. Wilson Bros. Furniture Store owned by Howard Gilliam and Joe Harris, was first established by John and Woodrow Wilson in 1907 in Sapulpa and moved to the East Dewey location July 1, 1912. Harris, partner with Gilliam, started Wilson Bros. in April 1926. Before entering the furniture business, Harris worked at the old Sapulpa refinery. Howard Gilliam was vice-president of the American National bank before he purchased his interest in Wilson Bros. on April 1, 1946. He worked at the bank from 1921 until he left to enter the furniture business…”

Wednesday, November 22, 1961, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Sapulpa is Considering Joining New Sports Conference

“Unless some unforeseen development arises, Sapulpa High School will be competing in a new sports conference next year, with the league made up of some Oklahoma Six Conference members and some Tulsa schools. School officials here announced that a plan will be submitted to the local school board at its next meeting and if all involved school boards approve the change, only a final vote will be necessary at a Dec. 6 conference meeting to finalize the change. Schools which Sapulpa will join in forming the new league if approved are Tulsa McClain, Sand Springs, Tulsa Webster, Tulsa Booker T. Washington, and Tulsa Memorial…Large schools which may join to form another conference are Tulsa Central, Tulsa Rogers, Tulsa Edison, Bartlesville, Muskogee, Tulsa Hale, and Ponca City…”

Tuesday, November 22, 1988, Sapulpa Daily Herald: City Increases Parking Ticket, Rural Fire Charge

“City Commissioners approved an ordinance Monday that will raise parking meter fines. In an unanimous decision, commissioners raised the fine for overtime parking from $1 to $5. Commissioners hope the increased fine will stop or at least slow the number of people violating the two-hour parking limit in the downtown area. Commissioners also approved an ordinance to double fire service rates for rural areas from $250 to $500 an hour per vehicle…”
