Wednesday, March 4, 1914, Sapulpa Evening Democrat: Sneak Thief Busy

“Last evening an oil man left his team standing near the Sapulpa State Bank and went into an adjoining store to make some additional purchases. When he returned to the vehicle he found that a sneak thief had relieved him of a number of purchases he had left in the buggy. The police were notified but were unable to locate the guilty party.”

Saturday, March 4, 1939, Sapulpa Herald: College Hornets Lose to Bartlesville Five, 31-17

“Sapulpa junior college Hornets, with some of the team members suffering sore arms from smallpox vaccinations, lost to the invading Bartlesville team here last night, 31 to 17, but are preparing for participation in the state municipal junior college tournament at Carnegie, Thursday, Friday and Saturday of next week. ‘The locals, a strong team in the Mistletoe Junior College conference, expect to make a good showing in the state meet. Last night’s game was a non-conference encounter.”

Tuesday, March 4, 1969, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Kindergarten Plan Studied

“A discussion of possible future capital improvements, operation and finance needed to take advantage of the pending state kindergarten bill was presented by Dr. Tom Palmer, superintendent of schools…Dr. Palmer told the board that room to hold the classes, teachers and transportation would be the major problems of initiating a kindergarten program into the existing school system. The state bill would finance approximately half of the cost of such a program if it is finally approved. A list of encumbrances, which included the purchase of a new weight lifting machine for the high-school physical education department and the salaries for substitute teachers needed a total of 1231/2 days for the month, was approved…”

Tuesday, March 4, 1997, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Sapulpa’s Space Traveler Returns

“Geobear is finally back home after going around the world again, but this time in the space shuttle. Sapulpa Middle School geography teacher Del Patterson presented a certificate to the Sapulpa Schools Board of Education documenting that the white teddy bear had flown on STS-81, the mission of the space shuttle Atlantis to the space station Mir. Patterson said the bear returned to Sapulpa Wednesday afternoon. The shuttle flight landed Jan. 22, but the bear’s return to Sapulpa was delayed while NASA technicians inspected the shuttle contents…The bear eventually made it all the way around the world, a trip of 25,000 miles. This time, the bear went 3.9 million miles during the 10-day mission. Patterson said NASA technicians took off his backpack for the trip…When the bear returned, he had a shuttle pin. badge and patch designed by the five-member crew. Commander Michael Baker,  Pilot Brent Jett and mission specialists John Grunsfield, Marsha Ivins and Peter Wisoff flew the mission Jerry Linenger flew on Atlantis to replace John Blaha after 33 days on Mir…”
