“In spite of the rain last night several hundred people attended the opening at the Welch Clothing Co. store from eight to ten. In the company were a number of ladies. The visitors strolled through the large rooms and spent considerable time in examining the large stock of men’s clothing and furnishing goods. The big new store was tastily decorated with flowers and blooming plants and made a fine appearance. The proprietors, Messrs J. K. Welch, Wiliam Welch and Mrs. Jennie Graham, received many compliments. The store is one of the best and most up to date in this part of the state and the city should be proud of it.”

“The central division of the OG&E, headed by B. J. Braheney, added another laurel to its string of honors last night when F. J. Meyer, vice president in charge of operations from Oklahoma City, presented the Sapulpa headquarters with a safety plaque for 1948. The plaque, an annual presentation, is awarded to the division having no ‘lost time’ accidents. Last night’s presentation marked the fifth time since 1938 for the local OG&E unit to annex the honor. Previous awards were given to the local division in 1938-39-40-41. They also won in 1947 and tied in 1945, but no plaques were awarded in those years. Meyer, who has been with the company for 44 years, was profuse in his praise of the central division last night. ‘Winning the plaque five times in 1l years is no light honor’ he said, ‘and is not easily achieved. It means that the entire personnel of this division are safety conscious to an amazing degree. The record of the division centering in Sapulpa is but the reflection of the policy of the parent organization for the OG&E have gained the reputation in the southeast of being among the foremost ‘safety conscious’ organization.’”
