Thursday, March 23, 1911, Creek County Courier: Spec Al Electric Signs to Appear in Sapulpa Soon

“J. H. Bailey, of the Federal Electric Sign System, of Kansas City, MO, is in the city for a few days and is arranging to but in some electric signs for the live business houses here similar to those to be seen in Kansas City, Chicago, and other cities. Mr. Bailey closed a deal Wednesday with the Gento Cigar store for a cigar sign that will beat anything ever seen in Oklahoma. The sign is a real ‘live’ cigar, with the electric smoke curling just as natural as one could imagine. The Gento Cigar store is the first business house in the city to buy a sign of this kind, but a number others, including some of the live stores will probably close up a deal today. With the great white way going and the special electric signs in the cities, Sapulpa will put in the appearance of a live one soon.”

Tuesday, March 23, 1915, Sapulpa Herald: City Drug Store Pretty Well Lit Up

“The City Drug store has made a decided improvement in its lighting arrangement, though at considerable cost. All the old gas and electric fixtures were torn out and in their places were substituted two big open glass globes with large globes inside. Thursday, March 23, 1950, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Former Sapulpan Featured in Life as ‘Eye-Identifier’

“A former Sapulpan was featured in the March 13 issue of Life magazine as the girl who identified a masked bandit by his ‘cold, cruel, deep-set eyes.’ The magazine article related how Mary Bigler, the former Mary Boyanton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Boyanton, and her sister, Ada, entered a San Pedro, Calif., cafe as two masked men were holding up the place. The thieves shut the women up in the restroom, the magazine said, beat up the owner and fled with $938. One of the gunmen was captured that night and got a life sentence, the other escaped. Mrs. Bigler, wife of Seaman Warren Bigler, said she was sure she could identify him by his eyes alone. Four months later, the FBI arrested the suspect, Henry J. Thwaits, at Long Beach, CA…Mrs. Bigler was born and reared in Sapulpa. Her parents moved to California about eight years ago. She has another sister, Mrs. Cecil Brigance, 609 S. Maple, and a cousin, May Nance, 614 N. Elizabeth.”
