Thursday, January 19, 1911 Creek County Courier: School News from Kiefer

“Examinations are in progress in all of the schools this week. Miss Hammel has been absent from her duties at school this week. Mrs. Kearney is substituting for her. The Kiefer boys were defeated in the basketball games at Claremore and Chelsea; however, they are not discouraged as they were greatly out-weighed by both of the teams and they say that they did some ‘tall playing’ for kids anyways. Mr. McCurdy says that their speed and teamwork is marvelous for their experience, and that they will be heard from in the future…”

Friday, January 19, 1912, Oklahoma Farmer and Laborer: Beer Poured in Rock Creek

“People residing downstream on the classic Rock Creek were surprised at the aroma arising from the bed of that stream last evening and today numerous inquiries were made as to the location of a brewery or malt house in this locality. State Enforcement Officer Caudill while here directed his deputies to destroy all liquors they captured. A west end house was raided and a big haul was made last evening. Later at night Mrs. Hubbard, Rupert and others conveyed a big wagon load of bottled beer and whiskey to the creek, where there was a pulling of corks and spilling of beer into the Rock Creek stream. At the same time one barrel of whiskey, one keg of the same and eight and a quarter cases of booze  were burned. The destruction was witnessed by about twenty people who accompanied the officers. The value of the liquors thus destroyed is fixed at $600.”

“Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Collins had as their guests Tuesday, Mrs. Collins brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Harry St. Clair and son of Bristow and her father, Clarence St. Clair of Shawnee. Dr. and Mrs. W.P. Longmire spent the weekend in Norman and Oklahoma City where they were guests of Mrs. Longmire’s parents in the city, and of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. L.S. Starns, Jr., and their son, Bill Longmire, in Norman…Sapulpa members of the O.E.S. who attended the installation service of the Bristow chapter there Monday evening…Members of Jimmie Wilson’s Catfish String Band gave an audition Tuesday evening at Tulsa’s new radio broadcasting station…”

Thursday, January 19, 1965, Democrat News: Dr. Bartlett to Head Group

“Election of officers highlighted a Tuesday night meeting of the Creek County Medical Society at Bartlett Memorial Hospital. Dr. M.S. Bartlett, administrator and professional member of the staff at Bartlett Hospital, was named president of the group, with Dr. Ed Brashear of Sapulpa elected secretary-treasurer. Guest speaker was Dr. Harold Calhoun, Tulsa urologist, who discussed urologic problems of children. Drs. Robert White and Gerald Zumwalt announced during the business meeting that the Creek County Health Department currently is conducting tests for tuberculosis and also is holding speech and hearing classes for children. Ways and means of encouraging and aiding financially Creek County students in the pursuit of professional studies also were discussed. All Sapulpa physicians attended the meeting, with Bristow and Drumright, also represented.”
