“First steps in the fight of the women of the Oklahoma State Federation of Women’s Clubs against disease, faulty hygienic conditions, and prevented ill-health, were taken yesterday when Mrs. D.A. Thursday, January 14, 1954, Sapulpa Daily Herald: New Buildings Planned for City Schools

“The fate of a proposed $333,500 building program for the Sapulpa school system rested with voters today after the board of education disclosed plans affecting three schools. Under the proposal, new buildings will be built at Woodlawn and Jefferson and a wing added to South Heights, according to Don Judd, president of the school board. Funds for the mammoth construction program will come from the present building fund and a bond issue…The proposed school at Jefferson will have 13 classrooms and the proposed school at Woodlawn will have 15. At present Woodlawn has 14 classrooms and Jefferson has 12. Both schools need additional space now and foresee an even greater need in the near future…The new Woodlawn school will be built at the southeast corner of the Euchee mission grounds between Adams and Watchorn on Lincoln. The new Jefferson building will be started east of the present structure, and eventually the present building will be torn down to make room for the planned addition to the proposed building…”

Sunday, January 14, 1979, Sapulpa Daily Herald: It’s Busy Year at Courthouse

“Increased volume of criminal and civil litigation at the Creek County Courthouse in Sapulpa indicates 1978 was a busy year for attorneys. Over 300 more felony and misdemeanor cases, civil suits, and divorce petitions were filed last year than in 1977. Yet in the small claims court, where suits usually are filed by individuals without the aid of attorneys, there was a decrease in the number of cases filed. Small claims cases last year totaled 726, down 60 cases from 1977. One sizable increase in litigation came in the misdemeanor division, where 917 cases were filed in 1978 compared with 788 for the previous year. As recent years, the majority of misdemeanor cases dealt with alcohol-related and marijuana possession charges. There were 583 civil lawsuits filed last year, an increase of 143 over 1977. More marriage licenses than divorce petitions were granted in 1978, but the ratio in the two statistics, which was about 2 to 1 a decade ago, continued to dwindle. A total of 581 marriage licenses were obtained last year, compared with 484 in 1977. Divorce petitions filed with 484 the previous year. Felony charges were filed in 214 cases last year, an increase of seven from 1977.”
