Friday, February 3, 1911, Oklahoma Farmer and Laborer: Society

“H.H. Johnson, cashier of the American National Bank, has just about decided to turn farmer and ranchman for a few months this summer and he is putting in a good deal of his time on his ranch northwest of this city. He expects to stock his ranch with the best stock of all kinds to be had and will no doubt succeed in this as he does in everything else that he undertakes. We do not know whether H.H. will engage in the raising of pumpkins, and the like…The Ladies Society of the B. of L.F. & E. will give a ball at the VanOrman Opera House on Thursday night Feb. 16. The ladies are making every preparation to make this ball a complete success. Their past successes assure this and all who attend are sure to have a good time…”

Monday, February 3, 1941, Sapulpa Herald: Our Scouting Course Series is Started

“The first in a series of three study courses in cub scouting was held at the Woodlawn school Friday night for patrons of that school. The next study course will be held Thursday. Interested parents who would care to learn this course are invited to attend. Those who took this course last week were Mrs. E.R. Powers, Mrs. Hortense Vineyard, Mrs. Carl Sherman, Mrs. K.C. Gantz, Mrs. John Doremus, Mr.s Phillip Morris, Mrs. Don Morris, Mrs. Leo Bruce, Mrs. Lee snider, and Leonard Teel. J.B. Yeager, scout executive of the Creek Nation Area, is in charge of the course and Dr. Russell Stevens is the local chairman. Cub scouts are young boys between the ages of 9 to 12.”

Friday, February 3, 1961, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Probe into Hotel Fire Continuing

“The $1,800-damaging St. James Hotel Clubroom fire of Tuesday night, blamed on the work of an arsonist, was still under investigation Friday. Fire Chief Jack Wilson said investigators still had no lead as to the identity of those responsible for setting the fire. The fire was proclaimed the work of an arsonist when newspapers soaked in kerosine were discovered under booths in the club room. In charge of investigation is Kyle Morehead, former state fire marshal, who now is fire investigator with the state crime bureau. Morehead was called into investigate the fire by Wilson.”

“For the lack of better word, the Sapulpa High School boys basketball team ‘thupset’ Stillwater 77-65 Friday night in Frontier Conference play. No one word aptly describes how Ray Reins’ Chieftains dominated John Phillips’ No. 12 ranked Pioneers…But if one word could do the job, it would have to be a combination of ‘thump’ and ‘upset,’ or thupset…”
