Wednesday, February 28, 1951, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Bristow Past to Speak Here

“Rev Charles F Arnold. Pastor of the First Christian church. Bristow, will speak at the annual dinner of the Men’s Bible Class of the First Christian church here, Thursday night The dinner will be held in the basement dining room of the church at 6:45 o’clock…He has gained wide reputation in the production of religious programs for radio and was invited this year by radio station KHBG. Okmulgee to preach a series of Lenten sermons. This program can be heard each Wednesday at 4 45 p m at 1240 kc He was invited three times last year to prepare and present a religious program over KOTV at Tulsa and has appeared many times as a guest on the Tulsa council of churches programs on KRMG and KVOO he was also selected to present a discussion of the Langer Bill on a 25 station state-wide broad-cast last tall which originated in Oklahoma City. The dinner is for members of the Men’s Bible Class, their guests and their wives, the program is under the direction of Joe Neal.”

Wednesday, February 28, 1990, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Allen Bowden OKs Projects in Bond Issue

“Voters in the Allen Bowden School district Tuesday approved a $350,000 bond issue to remodel and renovate the school. The question received 80 yes votes, or 70.8 percent, and 33 no votes, or 29.2 percent. School bond elections must receive a 60 percent majority vote to pass. ‘We feel very good about the outcome,’ said Allen Bowden principal Nita Rusher. Passage of the bond issue will allow the school to make several repairs including adding air conditioning and lowering the ceiling in the dining room, renovating all restrooms, recarpeting the library and adding storage space, expanding the band room and remodeling the gym lobby to provide public restrooms. Most of the repairs will be made in the older part of the school. Rusher said the school’s financial consultant has been contacted about the vote and will begin preparing bond sale documents. She also said the architect has been notified and will begin preparing more thorough plans. ‘We hope to begin work as soon as school is out,’ Rusher said…”

Wednesday, February 28, 2001, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Schools Spent Estimated $18 Million in Three-Month Period on Heating Bill

“OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) – Oklahoma schools spent more than $18 million on their November, December, and January heating bills about $10.6 million more than a year ago, a survey released Tuesday found. State School Superintendent Sandy Garrett called the results ‘alarming.’ and said that without extra money, districts may be forced to cut back on classroom materials and possibly teachers. ‘School districts set their budgets in July, and there’s not a lot of wiggle room for costs like this,’ she told state Board of Education members during their Tuesday meeting. The state House Appropriations and Budget Committee approved a supplemental budget last week that included $12 million for public schools to pay their heating bills. All but nine districts have responded to the survey regarding their November and December bills, while about three dozen haven’t supplied their January information…”

Wednesday, February 28, 2007, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Area Youth Prepare for Livestock Show

“Area FFA and 4-H students are preparing their prize livestock for the 2007 Creek County Livestock Show which begins March 1 and runs through March 6. The show will consist of contests in animal divisions such as market goats, market lambs, market steer, market hogs and heifers.Those animals selected to be in the top percentile of their division will then go on to participate in the premium sale at the end of the show. At the sale, the public is allowed to make bids of donations towards a specific animal, and those donations will then go to the student in charge of the animal to use as scholarship funds, future programs or the upkeep of the animal. The premium sale will be held on March 6 at 5 p.m., with a Buyer’s Social scheduled to take place at 6 p.m. that same evening. The Creek County Fairgrounds are located on Highway 66 west of Sapulpa.”
