Saturday, February 17, 1917, Sapulpa Herald: Bristow Bootleggers Collide with the Law

“Tom Pugh and John Patton, two old offenders, were before Justice Rockwood charged with bootlegging. They were assessed the usual $25 and costs and appealed the case to the county court. Police Chief Harrington retaliated by filing the same charges in the county court. During the day Thursday deputies of the police department had suspicions. Acting on these they called at the livery barn of Joe Tracy and gathered in four sports, others making a rapid getaway.”

Monday, February 17, 1947, Sapulpa Herald: Junior Police Corps

“November of last year a group of youngsters between the ages of 10 and 15 years, banded together to form the Junior Police Corps of Sapulpa under the sponsorship of the Kiwanis Club. Some of the group had never shot a gun, none knew the fine points of handling a gun safely, but today they know the intricacies of shooting and safety rules in handling guns…Purpose of the group of 32 members is to work with and assist the city police force in promoting safety and good citizenship. Like the regular force they wear badges and carry commission cards identifying them as members of the Junior Police Force…Fred Fretz, Kiwanian, assisted in the organization of the group.”

“The No. 7 ranked Liberty High School Cagers were edged 73-70 by No. 13 Warner Friday in Class 2A District Tournament first round action at Liberty. In another key first round district matchup Friday the Kiefer girls downed Drumright in overtime at Drumright, earning a spot in Saturday’s title game. At Kellyville the host Pony boys and girls lost games with Mannford. The Lady Pirates topped the Kellyvill girls 35-29, while the Mannford boys won 67-46 over KHS boys. Other area teams had first round byes Friday and automatically qualified for Saturday’s district title games…”

“Thursday area law enforcement officers gathered at Tulsa Technology Center’s Lemley Campus to recognize enforcement and prevention efforts designed to reduce traffic collisions and their resulting injuries, deaths, and property damage at the 20th Annual Buckle Down Awards Program. At the awards ceremony, three Sapulpa police officers were recognized, Maj. Mike Reed, Sgt. Troy Foreman, and Patrolman Mike Sole received recognition for making Sapulpa’s streets safer…”
