Friday, December 21, 1917, Creek County Republican: The Kellyville Store Robbers are Captured

“Paschal Morgan, Ed Anderson, and Bill Davis were arrested by Sheriff J.W. Woofter and two deputies Sunday and brought to the county jail, where they are held on a charge of having robbed the Gearin General Store at Kellyville of more than $900 worth of merchandise of miscellaneous character. The Kellyville store was broken into and looted last Wednesday night, the door was smashed in with a heavy steel bar and articles of various kinds chosen at random from the stock, and made off with…The arrests followed shortly and a great majority of the missing stock brought to the city, where it was given a thorough examination and identified beyond question as that which was taken from the shelves of the Kellyville store. Among the articles taken and afterward brought to the sheriff’s office were trousers, suits, shoes, overshoes, articles, silks, ladies shirt waists, and other pieces of ladies and gents wearing apparel. It was estimated that the entire amount of the robbery was $1,000. The three men caught are now occupying cells in the county jail awaiting preliminary trials.”

Saturday, December 21, 1929, Sapulpa Herald: Prominent Speakers Procured for Dedication of Sapulpa White Way

“President W.B. Bizzell of the University of Oklahoma at Norman and Harry Rogers president of the Exchange National Bank of Tulsa have accepted invitations to make addresses before an assembly of Sapulpans and their friends at the dedications of this city’s white way, January 10. The program will open with a banquet at which the officers and representatives from numerous other towns and cities of the state will be guests. In the receiving line will be the presidents of the city’s civic clubs…Jimmy Wilson’s Catfish Band, perhaps the most popular musical organization in the city, will be invited to appear on the dedication banquet program. Radio station KVOO is interested in the program, but no arrangements for broadcast have been announced…Residents of all neighboring cities will be invited to visit Sapulpa on that night. For a few minutes before the white way is lighted, all street lights will be extinguished and the city will be left for a brief space of time in darkness. Then the current will be turned on, and sapulpa’s white way will be a reality. Oklahoma Gas and Electric company employees have been busy for weeks now, setting white way posts, and laying cables beneath the pavement to light the lamps…”

Sunday, December 21, 1952, Sapulpa Sunday Herald: Sapulpa Youth is Honored in ROTC at Okla. A&M

“Marvin Murphy Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. M.L. Murphy, 1801 S Main, has been designated a ‘Distinguished Military Student’ by the ROTC Infantry unit at Oklahoma A&M college, where Murphy is a student. To be designated a ‘Distinguished Military Student’ a man must posses outstanding qualities of military leadership, high moral character, and definite aptitude for the military service. He must have distinguished himself either academically or by demonstrated leadership through his accomplishments while participating in recognized campus activities. He must have completed, or is scheduled to complete, the advanced course Senior Division, ROTC within one school year…Murphy graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1949, and is now a senior in the Institute of Engineering at A&M and will major in electrical engineering.”

Monday, December 21, 1987, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Santa Claus Makes a Special Visit to the Local Elk’s Lodge

“Santa Claus arrived Saturday morning in Sapulpa with the help of the Elk’s Lodge. For the last 27 years, members of the Lodge have helped needy children selected by the Salvation Army…At about 11 am Saturday, 165 children arrived aboard three buses anxiously awaiting Santa. First Christian Church of Sapulpa donated the use of their buses. Before seeing Santa though, the children feasted on hamburgers, french fries, and ice cream prepared by at least 50 lodge members and their wives. State Sen. Ted Fisher was one of the chefs who started at 6 am with the preparation of hamburs by the dozen. Also in attendance was Mayor Carol McMasters. While kids were eating, committee lodge members decided which children needed new shoes and Lodge members donated money to buy the shoes…”
