Monday, August 26, 1912, Sapulpa Evening Democrat: A Safe Plan Proposed

“Sapulpa will adopt it. At last, active steps have been taken to secure manufacturing enterprises on a safe and sane basis. The Commercial Club has sent a man into the manufacturing districts to induce industries to locate here. By this method, we may soon hope to have a godly number of industries locating here. The Industrial Commissioner has suggested a new and novel plan in the matter of paying bonuses, where it becomes necessary. He suggests that we pay all bonuses in gas and water, instead of a lump sum of cash. For example, if a bonus of $5,000 was agreed upon that amount would be paid over in monthly or quarterly payments, in the form of gas and water bills for the factory…”

Friday, August 26, 1927, Sapulpa Herald: Newly Installed Gas Apparatus Improves Hospital

“With the installation of the Morgan gas apparatus at the City Hospital yesterday, facilities for major and minor operations were decidedly improved. Supplanting the former machine, the new type insures a well advanced scientific kind of anesthetic…At an expense of $264 to the city, the machine gave a thorough demonstration of how it is operated. Five local physicians watched the maneuvers carefully and all expressed themselves heartily in favor of keeping it…The operating room is thoroughly adequate for the most difficult of operations…”

Saturday, August 26, 1939, Sapulpa Herald: B-C Team is City Softball Champs in League Finals

“Bartlett-Collins softball team, the Glassers, winners of the recent invitation tourney, took another honor last night by defeating Deason’s Cardinals, two games in a row, 4 to 2 and 10 to 2, to capture the City League Softball Championship. In the girls’ finals, Higgins Midgets of Tulsa, downed Woodrow Wallace’s Red Caps, 13 to 0, in a five-inning encounter to win the championship. Cups were awarded to championship teams and runners-up in the boys and girls finals…”

Thursday, August 26, 1976, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Street Re-Naming Ceremonies Sunday

“West Avenue will be renamed in honor of a late Sapulpa educator at dedication ceremonies at 5 p.m. Sunday at the corner of West and Johnson Streets. Earlene Gray Avenue will be the new name of the street; she was an elementary teacher at Booker T. Washington school for 36 years. Sunday would have been her birthday. Second District Congressman Ted Risenhoover will be the guest speaker at the dedication, according to  Eldreda Peevy, President of the Booker T. Washington Alumni Association, which sponsored the street re-naming in honor of a black citizens who made a significant contribution to Sapulpa. Refreshments will be served after the Sunday dedication, according to Publicity Chairman Abbie Gail Thomas.”
