Sunday, August 30, 1953, Sapulpa Daily Herald: Oldest in Oklahoma Salvation Army Unit Here Will Soon Enter 60th Year

“The Salvation Army unit in Sapulpa will soon enter its 60th year of service, and a report on the current situation has been made. The headquarters here is the oldest in Oklahoma. The first Salvation Army unit in Indian Territory was located in Sapulpa in September 1893…Last year, 139 families-343 persons-received help from the Salvation Army. All these persons were Sapulpans. Fire destroyed the homes of 17 families, and the Salvation Army files indicate that a total of 578 individual Sapulpa persons and families helped these persons. When a family in Sapulpa was burned out, recently, 39 other Sapulpa families helped the stricken family to set up housekeeping again…”

Tuesday, August 30, 1977, Sapulpa Daily Herald: $10 Million Development Due on Sand Springs South Side

“The way has been cleared for construction of a $10 million 150-unit residential development and shopping center south of Highway 51 and west of Highway 97 in Sand Springs. The Town Council Monday approved rezoning of 44 acres for the planned unit development. The council had annexed the site…A shopping center complex is planned for the 9.5 acres…Units will be constructed on three levels at 4.4 units per acre. Nearly 6,300 square feet of living space is planned for each unit. Several duplex, triplex, and quadruplex units are planned…”

“Trey Collins of Honey Valley Nursery took advantage of cool temperatures Monday and worked on landscaping at the Creek County Courthouse. Collins and Dale Broom, also a Honey Valley employee, planted shrubs as a part of landscaping improvements going on at the courthouse…City employees Jack Richardson and Larry Coggins repair worn out crosswalks in front of Washington Elementary. City employees plan to repair crosswalks in front of the High School as soon as they can get traffic control to stop traffic.”
