Sports bullets: where Sapulpa’s sports programs stand in competitions, districts, and more

Submitted by Michael Rose

It was a great week/weekend to be a Chieftain! Here’s a look at how all our teams did, plus a look at what’s coming up.

Big Blue Band

The Big Blue Band traveled to Muskogee last week for the OSSAA competition and (no surprises here) received all 1’s, which is the highest ratings to be received!  ALSO, the Big Blue Band played a HUGE role in the Chieftain’s win in McAlester Friday night. THANK YOU for your support for the football team!

Cross Country

Cross Country gets sent off by the Sapulpa Drumline on their way to compete in State on Saturday.

The cold and wet weather didn’t phase our runners Saturday in Edmond. Izsik Meza made 5A All-State with a 9th place finish and a new 16:21 personal best time! The boys’ team finished 4th in the state with an outstanding team 5k average of 16:53. On the ladies side, Destinee Miller also had a top 30 performance and a great 20:59 5k PR. This is dropping OVER 1 MINUTE off of her previous time. Great job, runners!

Ping Pings

What a way to kick off competition dance season at TSF for our Ping Pings. The Large Senior Ensemble is bringing home a 1st place finish, as well as a choreography award! Shirin Mortazavi earned 2nd place in the Intermediate solo division and in the Senior Solo division Acree Ernst was awarded 3rd place and Laney Jones earned 2nd place! Great job Pings! Also, the Pings are currently doing their Nothing Bundt Cakes fundraiser. Find a Ping Ping to get yours ordered!

Football

The team fought through some hometown adversity down in McAlester and brought back a W! As things sit, the team will get 3rd in district and travel to the winner of the Claremore/Collinsville game this Friday for the 1st round of playoffs. East Central travels to town this Friday for senior night and the last regular season game!
