Sports Bullets: Ladies excel in basketball, wrestling and Pings take state!

Girls Basketball

It was a great showing in Ft. Smith Arkansas for the ladies as they took 1st. The girls will be in action again over Christmas break as they are competing in the Tournament of Champions at the BOK Center. Also, the following ladies brought home some extra hardware:

Stailee Heard – Tournament MVP
Tyla Heard – Heart of a Champion Award
Tyla Heard and Mataya Hall All-Tournament Team

Boys Basketball

The boys also had a great showing at the BK Invitational as they placed 4th. The men travel to Neosho, MO over Christmas break to compete in the Holiday Classic. Also, congratulations to Tre Bruner for being voted to the Bishop Kelley Invitational All-Tournament Team!

Wrestling

The ladies of Sapulpa wrestling traveled to Wilburton and dominated while they were there! Shout out to these ladies for their success!

High school:

  • Caris Morris – 1st
  • Elizabeth Cope – 1st
  • Kassie Buckner – 2nd

Junior high:

  • Elizabeth Courveler – 2nd
  • Marie Cardon – 2nd
  • Kaydance Sherwood – 2nd

Also, the men finished 5th at the 69th Bristow Chuck West tournament. All top 5 teams were within 30 pts of each other:

  • Cavin Peper – 1st AND received the award for Outstanding Wrestler 
  • Jackson Willingham – 6th
  • Kyle brooks – 4th
  • Ethan Peterson – 2nd
  • Blake Hurt – 5th
  • Copper Thomas – 2nd
  • Caleb Turner –  3rd

Band

The High School Band Concert will take place on Thursday, December 15th at 7 pm at the High School Auditorium. Both of our Jazz Bands will be performing, as well as our Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and a few chamber ensembles. It should be a great night filled with some wonderful music! This Concert is completely free and open to the public. Feel free to invite your friends and family!

Pings

It was a good weekend at the OSDTDA competition for the Ping Pings! Here are the results:

  • Large Senior Ensemble – 2nd place
  • STATE CHAMPIONS in 5A KICK AND 5A Large Team Performance Mix 
  • Also, the ladies received Overall High Point Kick and the Stand Out Costume Award. Well done, ladies!

Winter Guard

The Winter Guard Christmas Performance will be on 12/19 at 6:30 pm in the Chieftain Center. This is a free event! 🙂

JROTC

Great news to report from the JROTC program! Sydney Burrow (Soph) was an automatic qualifier for the USMC Air Rifle Service Championship in Anniston, AL, and our precision team also made the cut for an invitation.  The other team members are Anna Edwards (Jr), Addison Rutan and Rylee Wilson (both Freshmen). The dates are February 2-4, 2023. If they do well, they could earn an invitation to the JROTC National Championship in March. Good luck Chieftains!

Choir

Christmas Coffeehouse presented by the SYNCOPATION Jazz Choir on Monday, December 19 in the High School Commons at 7 PM. It will be a great night of music and desserts!
