Sports Bulletin: Cadets medal in Amarillo, Baseball rescheduled, and FFA Fundraiser is Friday

MCJROTC

Our Cadets traveled to  Amarillo, TX last week to compete in the Caprock High School Golden Spread Sweepstakes. The Air Rifle match was Friday afternoon where our two teams placed 1st and 2nd, and then they competed in the Drill Meet, Academic and PT competitions on Saturday where we finished 2nd overall as the Sweepstakes Runner-up. They are bringing home a lot of team and individual medals.

Air Rifle Individual medals:

  • Anna Edwards placed 1st in standing, and 3rd overall
  • Jazmyn Verdeja was 2nd in standing
  • Justin Cromer was 2nd in prone
  • Nathaniel George was 3rd in prone
  • Sydney Burrow was 3rd in standing, 2nd in kneeling, and 2nd overall 
  • Samuel Champlain was 1st in prone, 1st in kneeling, and 1st overall
  • Inspection – 3rd place
  • Academics – 2nd place

The cadets then went back to back to back on drill events, with armed regulation (3rd), armed exhibition (2nd), 2nd place overall in armed drill, unarmed regulation, unarmed exhibition (2nd), 3rd place overall in unarmed drill, male color guard, and finally female color guard (3rd). They went right into the PT competition which consisted of pull-ups (male) or flexed arm hang (female), two minutes of crunches and a 300 yard shuttle run. Our male team was 1st overall with Jauquese Hargrove placing 1st in pull-ups and 2nd overall, and Austin Howard placing 1st in crunches, 2nd in pull-ups and 1st overall male. For our female PT team, Sydney Burrow placed 1st in the flexed arm hang and was 3rd place overall. Final event was the knockout drill where all the cadets are assembled in one formation. In execution and after every drill command the cadets are inspected for perfection. Jauquese Hargrove finished 2nd out of all the cadets in this competition.

FFA Fundraiser

The FFA booster club fundraiser, Boots and BBQ is this week! The fundraiser is a BBQ Dinner to support the FFA Programs activities such as National Convention, State Convention, and their many other activities. Attached is a flyer for the event. Tickets are $15, there will be a live band, as well as a live and silent auction. We hope you can all make it out to this event, it will be a great time! Baseball

The Chieftains are currently 11-7 overall and 6-0 in district. The men look to extend that district win streak as they take on Rogers at home tomorrow. UPDATE: This game has been moved to Wednesday.

Cheerleading

The varsity cheerleaders are back in action this week. First, the ladies travel to Jenks tomorrow, then Chandler on Tuesday, and then they are back at home in the Chieftain Center on Thursday. Come support this hard-working group of ladies!

Golf

Frontier Valley Conference match is this week for the boys as they compete at Indian Springs. Also, the boys are currently ranked #9 in the state. The ladies are currently ranked 11th. They travel to LaFortune this week. 

Track

The track team hits the road to go compete at a highly competitive meet at OBU in Shawnee this Tuesday.
