It’s an unfortunate reality that 1 in 4 children in Oklahoma struggles with hunger and food insecurity, according to statistics given by the Eastern Oklahoma Food Bank.
Thankfully, that organization is now partnering with the Sapulpa Public Library to provide afterschool “snack packs” for children and teenagers 18 and under during the week.

These shelf-stable snack packs include a nutritious snack and chocolate milk, at no charge.
There are a few caveats to the program; in addition to the age restriction, the snacks must be eaten on-site, and are not available on weekends.
Melodie Reader, the Sapulpa Public Library’s assistant librarian, says the program is crucial to those who need it.
“It really helps family budgets by covering that after-school meal, especially during times when school is out and regular meal programs aren’t available,” she said.
Regular serving times (excluding holidays):
- Monday – Thursday: 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
- Friday: 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Reader says the snackpacks will be available on weekdays through May 21st, 2026.
“We’re really happy to be able to offer this support to local families right here at the library.”
