Sapulpa City Manager Joan Riley announced in a formal statement to Sapulpa Times on Tuesday morning that Mike Reed will become Sapulpa’s next Chief of Police, effective September 1, 2020.
Reed, who joined the department in 1989 was selected from within the ranks to lead the city’s 48-officer police department after several candidates were interviewed for the position. During his 31-year tenure with SPD, Reed has served in various roles and risen through the ranks to Major in charge of Sapulpa’s Detective Division.
“Over these past 31 years, Mike has distinguished himself as a man of integrity and a fine law enforcement officer,” Riley said in a release. “Mike has deep ties in our city and as Chief, his excellent relationship with our community will help ensure that our police department lives up to its core mission of keeping our community safe by working to maintain and enhance strong relations with community residents and businesses.”
The City Council is expected to formally confirm this appointment at its regular meeting on September 8.
Mike Reed replaces current Chief Pete Sellers, the Deputy Chief who took over when Mike Haefner retired in February.
