Sapulpa’s Japanese Martial Arts Academy finishes strong in Broken Arrow

Sapulpa’s Japanese Martial Arts Academy Competition Team traveled to Broken Arrow on Saturday to compete in the 32nd Shotokan Tigress tournament for Youth. Once again the team won the “Team Champions award” which was their 6th out of 6th Tournaments this year.

Jolene McGrew won 1st place in Fighting, Forms, and Weapons to lead the Pack, according to a statement sent to Sapulpa Times by the school. First-place finishers were Braylon Matteren, Chris Flebbe, Malachi Jackson, Emma Cooley, and Matthew Burgett. Other finishers were Sam Anfinson and Abbey Wingo. Strong showings from Emily Wingo, Jayce Therrien, Alleyah Tolbert, Noah Harper, AJ Runnels, and JJ Morgan.

The JMAA Competition Team finished their season undefeated as a team. Training for next year begins this month, anyone students from 5 and up who are interested are welcome to join, JMAA is located at 18 N Park St downtown Sapulpa.
