(SPS) — Sapulpa High School’s Big Blue Band will be one of several marching bands performing at the Valero Alamo Bowl halftime show in San Antonio on December 29th.
The University of Oklahoma Sooners will take on Oregon in the 29th annual Valero Alamo Bowl. Kick off is at 8:15 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN.
Sapulpa Band director Whitney Yokum says Sapulpa is one of four bands playing at halftime, and one of two high school bands from Oklahoma. Noble High School will also perform.
“The band has been rehearsing some classic rock favorites,” said Yokum. “There’s some karaoke crowd involvement so it’s sure to be a fun show.”
The Big Blue Band will play singalongs such as YMCA and Sweet Caroline.
Last year, the band program was canceled due to COVID. However, historically, the Alamo Bowl has featured some of the best high school bands in the nation. Now, Sapulpa High School’s band will join those ranks — performing in front of the crowd of more than 60,000 fans.
The band will leave early in the morning on December 26th and make the drive to San Antonio on charter buses. They’ll return December 31st, and also take part in other band activities while in San Antonio.
OU season ticket holders should receive an email regarding availability of Alamo Bowl tickets. Tickets go on sale for the public on Tuesday, December 7, at 10:00 a.m.
