(SPS) — Sapulpa High School junior Jennifer Reyna picked up a big check this month.

Literally.

Not only was it one of those oversized, cardboard checks, but the dollar amount was sizable, too.

Jennifer won first place and $2,500 in the Green Country Money Matters 2019 Essay Contest sponsored by Central Bank of Oklahoma. GCMM is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial education to families in northeastern Oklahoma.

The focus of the 500-word essay was on savings. Students were asked to include in their story information about savings accounts, how savings benefit a family, reasons why a family might put money back, and why it’s important to save.

GCMM recognized first and second-place winners in the High School (grades 10-12) and Middle School (grades 7-9) divisions. A total purse of $5,000 was awarded.

The prize money will be deposited into a college savings account.

Congratulations, Jennifer!
