Sapulpa schools transitions back to Distance Learning for last week of the year

Sapulpa Public Schools has made the decision to transition back to Distance Learning for the final week of the 2020 school year, according to an official statement released Friday afternoon.

The final decision came this morning, a week after SPS had decided to return to in-person learning with just two weeks to go until Christmas break. Sapulpa Schools administration says the decision was based on “an effort to maximize mitigation strategies, most notably, exercising social distance.” We’ve included the full statement below.

Creek County is currently at 3,118 cases of COVID-19, with 2,674 having recovered, and 54 deaths. Sapulpa is at 1,464 cases, with 1,263 recoveries, and 23 deaths. School-aged children make up the smallest quantity of cases at 10.14%.

Good afternoon. As we embark on the final week of the semester, we would like to extend our gratitude to our students, parents, and staff for your unyielding approach to cooperating with the protocols we’ve put in place to create the safest environment possible for everyone at our schools. We have one more week before we pause for Winter Break. Keep up the good work.

For the week of Dec. 14, we will transition to Distance Learning for all students who are enrolled in the traditional model of instruction. Students who receive Special Education services should consult with their teachers about next week.

Out of an abundance of caution, and in an effort to maximize mitigation strategies, most notably, exercising social distance, we feel that pivoting to Distance Learning at this time is the best course for students and staff.

We appreciate your understanding and support.

Again, Winter Break is Dec. 21 through Jan. 4.
