Sapulpa Public Schools announced the start of the Chieftain Athletics expansion, a key component of the largest bond package in district history.
SPS, along with Reed Architecture and Interiors and Nabholz Construction Corporation, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the expansion just east of the Chieftain Center and the end zone project at George F. Collins stadium.
The event drew student-athletes, coaches, district leaders, community members, and project partners, marking a significant point in the district’s long-range facilities plan. The work coincides with construction of the new Sapulpa High School campus and performing arts center.
The Chieftain Athletics expansion includes auxiliary gyms for practices, competitions, and school events, as well as a state-of-the-art workout area and a concession stand.
“These facilities will be an extension of the classroom. We will be teaching life lessons,” said Michael Rose, SPS Athletic Director. “All of these buildings are beautiful, and we will cherish them, embrace them, and use them as an opportunity to grow as young men and women.”
Mr. Rose then invited student-athletes to applaud in support of the Sapulpa community.
Sapulpa-based Reed Architecture and Interiors designed the facilities, while Nabholz Construction Corporation of Tulsa will oversee the building project.

The end zone facility at George F. Collins Stadium will offer upgraded locker rooms, coaches’ offices, and athletic training space. The Chieftain logo will be prominently displayed, recognizing the community’s support for the district’s athletic programs. The video scoreboard will be installed atop the new structure.
Assistant Superintendent Johnny Bilby praised the bond projects, saying students richly deserve such tremendous improvements.
“This is another great day to be a Chieftain,” said Mr. Bilby. “As you can see, things are running fast. Sapulpa Public Schools’ trajectory is always upwards, and that’s because of you. That’s because of our students, and that’s because of our community and what we do. This is long overdue, and thank you for allowing us to be part of your students’ lives.”
Following remarks, student-athletes, administrators, coaches, Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce members, and project managers participated in the ceremonial dirt turn. The event reflects SPS’s commitment to expanding student opportunities, supporting district growth, and strengthening community partnerships. The district will share construction updates as work progresses.
