OKLAHOMA CITY – House Speaker-Elect Kyle Hilbert announced this week the new majority leadership team for the 60th Legislature, including the appointment of Representative Mark Lawson, R-Sapulpa, as House Majority Leader.
First elected to the House in 2016, Lawson has been a driving force behind several key legislative achievements, including reform to human services across the state, advocating for public health and recently standing firm alongside Speaker Hilbert to halt energy transmission lines in his district.
“I am confident in Rep. Lawson’s ability to lead with integrity and vision,” said Hilbert, R-Bristow. “He has earned bipartisan respect for his ability to build cohesion around issues and champion policies that reflect the values of the entire state. There is not a better person to lead the majority caucus.”
Traditionally the Majority Leader assumes the role of managing legislative priorities for the majority caucus, working closely with members of the House and stakeholders across the state to ensure the House’s agenda is promoted efficiently.
“Serving the people of Oklahoma is both an honor and a responsibility I hold with the utmost regard,” said Lawson. “As Majority Leader, I am committed to fostering collaboration among my colleagues, bringing in the voices of stakeholders from across the state and delivering legislative solutions that address the needs of our communities and reflect the will of our caucus.”
Lawson represents House District 30, encompassing Glenpool, Kiefer, Oakhurst, Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Tulsa. Outside of his legislative work, he holds a bachelor’s degree in health education from Oklahoma State University and a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Oklahoma. He and his wife, Pam, live in Sapulpa with their two children, Asher and Ivy Ruth.
