At the Tuesday, July 5th City Council meeting, Sapulpa’s City Council agreed to raise the city’s rates for lots and burials—the first such increase in about 13 years.
According to the meeting agenda, the city has not increased cemetery rates since 2009. A fee study was made of regional cemeteries and Sapulpa’s rates were found to be significantly lower than most, if not all, cemeteries in the area.
The fees charged for burials and lot sales are used for the operation and maintenance of the four city-owned cemeteries (South Heights Cemetery, North Heights Cemetery, Fairview Cemetery, Sapulpa Cemetery). The fee structure changes based on whether the deceased is an adult or child, and based on the time and day of the week. The new fees are as follows:
Purchasing a lot or grave space:
- Adult space: $700 (was $475)
- Child space: $200
- Lot transfer fee: $10
Interment fees:
- Adult space burial: $700 Monday through Friday, before 4:00 p.m. (was $425); $875 Saturday, Sunday, City holiday, or any day after 4:00 p.m. (was $675)
- Child space burial: $400 Monday through Friday, before 4:00 p.m. $650 Saturday, Sunday, City holiday, or any day after 4:00 p.m.
- Cremation: $300 Monday through Friday, before 4:00 p.m. (was $200); $450 Saturday, Sunday, City holiday, or any day after 4:00 p.m. (was $350)
- Disinterment: $1000 Monday through Friday, before 4:00 p.m. (was $500); $1,500 Saturday, Sunday, City holiday, or any day after 4:00 p.m. (was $1,000)
- Reinterment:$800 Monday through Friday, before 4:00 p.m. (was $650); $950 Saturday, Sunday, City holiday, or any day after 4:00 p.m. (was $750)
The proposed fees were agreed to unanimously by the City Council and would go into effect immediately.
