(SPS) – Sapulpa Public Schools announced it has hired Jordan Nagel as head boys’ varsity basketball coach.
The position is a homecoming for Nagel, who graduated from Sapulpa High School in 2007. He has spent the last four years as head coach of Bishop Kelley varsity boys’ basketball, and previously served at Beggs Public Schools as head coach for varsity basketball and 4th through 9th-grade basketball. He was an assistant varsity basketball coach at Sapulpa from 2013 to 2016.
“We’re excited to welcome Jordan back to Sapulpa,” said Michael Rose, Sapulpa Public Schools’ Athletic Director. “He brings fantastic energy and expertise, and we look forward to seeing how he can shape the future of our basketball program.”
Nagel, a graduate of Northeastern State University with a Master’s in Kinesiology, is honored to call Sapulpa home. He was a three-year starter for the Chieftains while attending Sapulpa High School. He worked as a graduate assistant for the men’s basketball program at NSU.
“My family and I are very excited for this opportunity,” said Nagel. “Sapulpa has always been home and I am looking forward to joining a program and athletic department that are really focused on culture, school pride and excellence. I’m ready to begin diving in and building relationships with our players, teaching staff and the Sapulpa community.”
During the 2022-23 season, Nagel led Bishop Kelley to more victories than the team has seen in ten years. The Comets won the 5A Regional Championship under Nagel’s leadership in 2021.
“Sapulpa plays in the toughest conference in the state,” said Nagel. “We will be a team and a program that will do things right on and off the court. Our standards and expectations are extremely high and I am looking forward to that challenge.”
Nagel’s wife, Danielle, teaches special education at Sapulpa Junior High. He’s a proud stepdad to Mercy, 12, and Michael, 10, who attend Sapulpa Public Schools.
