On two different occasions Sapulpa Police arrested individuals for driving under the influence of toxicants last Saturday. In both cases, the individuals admitted to being intoxicated.
The first incident happened early, when at 12:29am Officer Baylor Pittinger was dispatched to an injury accident at State Highway 66 and Gray Street. According to affidavits from Sapulpa Police, Pittinger observed a silver Chevrolet Monte Carlo crashed into a fence north of Highway 66.
After making contact with the driver of the vehicle, who identified himself as John McGuire, Officer Pittinger noticed the odor of alcohol and that McGuire had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and was unsteady on his feet, and actually had to use the hood of the patrol car to maintain his balance.
Pittinger attempted to conduct Standardized Field Sobriety Tests on McGuire, who freely admitted to being intoxicated, saying “man I’ve been drinking and I’m already f****d up.” McGuire was arrested for DUI and driving with a suspended license.
Later that afternoon at about 1:27pm, officer Tyler Brogdon answered a call to Taco Bueno on Main Street to investigate a male unconscious behind the wheel of his vehicle in the drive-thru.
An employee at Taco Bueno, said he had to hit the window of the vehicle several times trying wake the driver up, to no avail. The employee said he believed the driver was intoxicated.
Officer Brogdon says the vehicle was running in the drive-thru when he approached it and says “when I knocked on the window, the driver seemed disoriented and confused.”
The driver, 34-year-old Daniel Mark Preciado, was arrested after Brogdon said he could smell the odor of an alcoholic noticed he had slurred speech, was unsteady on his feet, and had actually admitted to drinking prior to driving his vehicle.
Preciado had two prior felony convictions including aggravated driving under the influence.
