Sapulpa Police, assisted by an off-duty Sand Springs police officer, arrested a man who tried to pay for his cab using fake money on early Thursday morning.

Officer Baylor Pittinger with the Sapulpa Police was called to the Walmart parking lot at 1002 West Taft to investigate a report about someone trying to not pay their cab fare.

When he arrived, the cab driver said that 33-year-old Joshua Barber had tried to pay the cab driver with a fake one-hundred dollar bill. Barber got out of the cab and began to walk away when an off-duty Sand Springs Police Officer caught wind of the situation and detained Barber.

The cab driver decided not to press charges or give a written statement. When Pittinger asked Barber how he was going to pay the driver, Barber reportedly said “I have six hundred dollars,” and reached into his pocket, pulled out five one-hundred dollar bills and handed them to officer Pittinger.

Pittinger said that the bills were discolored and “felt like cardboard”. Four of the five bills also had the same serial number.

Barber had an outstanding warrant from Osage County, so he was placed under arrest and taken to Sapulpa Police Department for booking. He also had two previous charges in his criminal history, one of which was fraud-related.
